A crowd of electricians are on strike. Lots of working electricians don’t know who they are. They seem to be a “rent a crowd” brought along to picket outside various places where regular honest to goodness electricians are working for a living.
They are the electrical contractors union whose average pay is 21 euro’s and something per hour. They were promised a pay increase of 11% over a period of a few years which wasn’t honoured by their employers who are demanding they take a 10% pay cut.
Sorry guys. I know it’s a slippery slope of worker’s rights being eroded in recessionary times. The highly paid executives of the Unions are not going to stand for that and the big guns on both sides are shouting their mouths off.
I am not anti Union. I just want a job and the chance to make a living. O K, tough tit, I didn’t have the wisdom to train as an electrician or the smarts to marry one.
Shut the fuck up, guys. There are thousands on the dole who would love to trade with you right now.
As for your well paid Union masters, ask them to pay your wages instead of you are paying theirs.

Maria you nailed it as usual. I love reading your blogs, great observations perfectly rendered! You should be getting paid for it. Far better than anything published by irishcentral.com. Any trips to Bundoran lately? -D

Hi Deirdre, thank you for the encouragement. Sometimes I feel like letting the blog drift and then a word of encouragment gets me back on course. I haven’t heard of irishcentral.com but will check it out. It’s hard to get paid for blogging. We were in Bundoran a few weeks ago. Our trips to the amusements have been significently reduced. Hows that baby and how are you?

Everything is going grand I suppose despite my constant whining about the usual shyte! Baby is almost 7 for Godsakes. Is Ultan going into secondary school in September? And Rian is right behind him. I hear you’re going to be over here soon. I’m going to be in Ireland last fortnight in August, maybe we’ll bump into each other at some juncture. I think that you should be writing an opinion piece in the Sligo Champion or Weekender. Best to you and your wee family.

Yes, Ultan is going into secondary school. Grange tech and Rian will be going to Summerhill next year to their autism unit. Maybe i’ll mention my blog to the Weekender. I can’t believe your babba is 7. I’ll bet he is a joy.
